The trulli are extraordinary examples of construction in dry stone slabs with a conical or pyramidal roof (the name comes from the Greek τρούλος, or "dome"), a technique dating back to prehistoric times and still in use in Puglia today. They are widespread throughout the Itria Valley as rural shelters for livestock and agricultural tools, but the highest concentration of trulli is located in Alberobello: in the historic center of this city there are more than 1,500, almost all in perfect condition.
